Privacy and usage statistics
What Homeling keeps on your Mac, what it sends, and the switches for each.
What's kept on your Mac
Your chats, the people Homeling knows, its memories, your settings, the activity log and the files you share in chat are kept on your Mac, in Homeling's folder (~/Library/Application Support/Homebody; in the Mac App Store version, macOS keeps it inside Homeling's own container). Homeling's AI runs on your Mac too, so the things you use every day work without our servers and offline.
Usage statistics
In Homeling: Settings → Privacy → Share anonymous usage statistics
Once a day, Homeling can send us which features were used, how fast replies were and how often something crashed, with random noise added so no single report says what you did. Never what you write, read or ask.
- In the download from homeling.ai they're on, and a notice says so the first time; nothing is collected before you've seen it. “Turn off” on the notice, or the switch in Settings → Privacy, stops them.
- In the Mac App Store version, Homeling asks first, and they're off unless you choose to share.
Cloud help
“Ask a cloud model for hard requests” is off unless you turn it on. Turning it on downloads a small model once that checks each request first and keeps anything private on your Mac. No cloud model is connected yet, so for now it only adds that check.
Weather and nearby places
In Homeling: Settings → Weather
For the weather, Homeling sends only a rough area, rounded to about 10 km, and only once you turn the weather on. It comes from the city you type, or from your Mac's approximate location if you choose that. Searching for places near you uses the same rounded area, and is off unless you turn it on.
Your voice
Your speech is turned into text on your device with Apple's on-device recognition. The recording isn't saved or sent anywhere.
Backups and your iPhone
Backups go to your own iCloud, encrypted with a key only you have (who can open a backup). Your iPhone talks to your Mac directly, over a link encrypted for the two of them (pairing).
